Ephedra is an ingredient that was once popular in many dietary supplements on the market.  It has recently been banned by the FDA and is no longer sold in the U.S. It acts as a stimulant, increasing metabolism to help burn fat.

Ephedra has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for nearly 5,000 years as a treatment for asthma, hay fever, and the common cold.  It is both a stimulant and a thermogenic.  It's effects are a result of the ephedrine and pseudoephedrine content of the plant.  These compounds stimulate the brain, increase heart rate and blood pressure, and expand the bronchial tubes (making breathing easier).

The thermogenic properties cause an increase in metabolism which in turn causes an increase in body heat.

There are many different brand names that sell Ephedra based diet pills. These include Lipodrene, Staminia-RX, Stacker, Stimerex, MetaboTrim, and many others. Check this site for user reviews of each individual product before deciding which one to try.

User Review

Did It Work? There is no denying the weight loss properties of Ephedra. But, it is used in many different diet pills and not all have the same amount or purity of the active ingredients.
Side Effects? Side effects of Ephedra based diet pills are similar to other stimulants and include increase heart rate and blood pressure, which in turn can lead to heart attack, seizure, or stroke.
Is It Affordable? Ephedra based diet pill prices are comparable to other diet pills and range between $30 and $60 per months supply.
Conclusion It can be an effective ingredient of diet pills if used correctly and the price is affordable in relation to the alternatives.

Illegal in the U.S. and hard to find, but it does work.

On April 14th, 2005, the FDA lifted the U.S. ban on Ephedra in dosages of less than 10mg per day. In August 2007, however, the ban was re-instated.

Talk with a doctor before taking any diet pill, but I'd say this one is pretty good as long as you don't have any history of heart problems.

User Review

Did It Work? Yes
Side Effects? The side effects are just like any other stimulant, increased heart rate/blood pressure/etc. The only ephedra related deaths came from people who shouldn't have been taking it in the first place. (Note: this is coming from someone with no medical background)
Is It Affordable? Yes
Conclusion I'm taking Herbalean with ephedra and it's working great. I feel more energetic and my appetite is lower.
